   Life isn't always wonderful.

  If you don't believe that, simply ask Chris Colt. Within the span of a few months, his life got flipped on its head. The lone survivor of a tragic plane crash, and under very mysterious circumstances, Chris is now living with his brother Matt in a small town named Cortland. Just two weeks after his arrival home, strange things start to happen, and Chris' dreams won't stop haunting him.

   Death takes its toll yet again in the abandoned town fair. This only proves to Chris that destiny isn't on his side at all. Left alone with no support, he starts planning for a way out of his situation. Or at least he tries to until he receives an interesting email invitation that he takes as a joke. In it, he gets invited to enroll in an Academy, which isn't like the other ones around the world. People with special gifts go there.

   It is in this Academy that Chris is able to find new love, new friends, a new family, to fill the abyss left after he lost his old ones in Cortland. The idyll, however, is quickly spoiled by Alexsander, the older vampire in history, and the headmaster of the Academy. The task he gives to Chris might be the last one in his life, but why might that be?
